Helpfull things to identify here are:

    mobo manufacturer and model
    northbridge
    southbridge
    sound on board
    graphics on board
    graphics card
    sound card
    modem
    network
what you have done recently or just before the failure (which you identified already)

As you can see from this site:

    http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1

there are a LOT of drivers for via chipsets under Win XP available.

Same for others like Intel, etc. So information is important.

So now you look at the chipsets and can go to that site I posted above and get the specific drivers for your mobo northbrige KT333 chipset and audio codec for the southbridge VT8233A chipset.

I would also suggest removing the new sound card completely and enabling onboard audio again so you start from scratch.

It might not even hurt to do an XP repair too.

Then, when everythuing is running well as 'stock', start again to disable onboard sound, reboot, shut down, install new card, boot and install.

Here is the registry cleaner to uninstall all remnants of the Crystal based card (your new one). And here is the latest driver for the card including the sound bank. Good luck.
