    Sound problem :(

    intell motherboard, soundmax, windows XP

The problem is, everything works fine according to the computer..but there is headphones in my front jack. That naturally wouldn't be a problem but I don't have a front jack to plug into, and it says that all sound will be muted until its unplugged. I've tried restarting, motherboard drivers, soundcard drivers, messing with the volume, and plugging and unplugging my speakers/headphones. I dont know what kind of problem this is, so I put it here. Any idea what I should do?

First thing I would do is shut down, open up the case, and dust it out with air. Could well be you have something built up in the front-jack connector that is shorting it emnuf to look like a headset is plugged in.

I just bought a few days ago..no dust..but I sprayed canned air on it. I did some stuff .. SoundMax tells me whats plugged into the computer..but its muted because of the frontjack, is there anything that could be seen as the front jack?

Any chance, since it is NEW, that they plugged the rear lines into the front plugs?

If you got this a few days ago its under warranty. I'd be taking it right back and explaining they didnt do something quite right.

But I wouldnt be taking the lid off the case, that can void warranty in many cases. They can check the connectors themselves to see if they have indeed wrong plugged things.
