    Post Win98 boot disk

    can i use my Win98 boot disk,on a computer
    that i am going to use Win95 on?Also,where can find my key-code number on a machine that
    is already running,and are there any Win95
    boot disk that have cd-rom support?

    Yes you can use your 98 bootdisk on a 95 machine. Just do not use it to format or sys the drive as the command.com version is incoorect. But to load a cdrom driver in dos for a reinstall of 95 it works great. Much better then the 95 bootdisk which had cdrom support. They just did not work all that well.

    To find the product key in either 95 or 98 boot to a command prompt and change to the windows directory. Then type 'edit system.dat' and do a search for 'productkey'. You could also download a great little util called 9xdiag from http://62nds.co.nz/cgi-bin/x/e2110.html?dFXch

    that will go and get the number for you. Will also let you know some other stuff like where windows was last installed from and any screen saver passwords that may be on the system.

    the diag utility mentioned by lysergic is the easiest way... it'll tell you what's wrong with windows when Windows won't start up.
