PCMCIA USB 2.0 card not showing as 2.0
hello. I have a compaq evo1015v that has 2 usb 1.1 ports on the back. however i bought a usb 2.0 card so i could use a wireless usb adapter and my 2.0 thumbdrive. i installed the card and windows found all the drivers, however, in device manager it shows up as:
ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller
ALi PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
i know the first 2 and 2 of the usb root hubs are the onboard, and everything else looks like it should according to the documentations except that one of the USB Root Hubs should say USB 2.0 Root Hub. Becuase of this, none of the devices i try plugging into the card are working right now. Is there someway to get it work?
THanks

well in the documentation it states that it should show the enhanced controller, the 2 NEC controllers, and 2 usb root hubs, and 1 usb 2.0 hub. the 2.0 does not show up. instead i get 5 usb root hubs, but i only have 4 ports (2 in the back, and 2 on the card). windows says the card is installed and working right but it cant be becuase nothing i plug into it works. my thumbdrive doesnt light up and isnt seen on my PC and my wireless adapter doesnt come up. any ideas?

Which OS are you using? are there any exclamation points in the device manager? do you have another laptop to try the card in? Have you tried both slots (if you have 2) Please let me know...Thanx

I was merely referencing the low voltage no-go point re USB ports.
Of interest also is the latest BIOS upgrade:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/fi...sion/6443.html
which apparently fixes a cardbus issue.
It is also worth noting that every instance of the Evo1015v I read about says it came with 2.0 installed.

Well there are no 2.0 ports on this laptop, i can assure you. I have already run the bios update and still nothing. The device manager doesnt show any exclamations or question marks or anything. As far as windows is concerned it thinks everything is working fine.
I am on XP pro SP2, MS USB driver 5.1.2600. I dont have any other laptops to plug this card into here at my house. I can have a friend test it at work tomorrow. My USB devices work fine when plugged into the ports on the back, but not on the card.

When I searched for PCMCiA USB 2.0 compaq evo n1015v I got a lot of sites etc showing USB 2. When you search just for spec's you get saome that don't say and some that say 1.1, which is obviously right.
Last ything I can think of - did you check under Other Devices?

nothing listed under other devices. According to windows everything is supposed to be good but still nothing. I've noticed that this card has a port for an AC adapter and the manual says its used for USB devices that use bus power but have a larger power consumption, but i dont think i should need it for just a key drive. I guess i will have to wait till tomorrow to test it on a coworkers laptop. If it doesnt work i will just return it.
i just barely found a part # for it. Gmuzc-02.
Thanks for ur help so far.
