No POST
Hi,
Just been having a look at my friends laptop for him coz he said it wouldnt start up, its a Fujitsu siemensAmilo D7830. So i got it turned it on, the HDD light comes on for a sec then it shuts down, doesnt even make it to the POST, and nothing on screen. Ive checked the RAM and HDD and connections etc and they are ok, so would i be right in thinking power or CPU problem, and that its out of my hands? Cheers

1. Remove the Battery, Then Turn on the system to see if it will post.
2. If the Hard drive is removeable. Try it removing it and see if the system will post

If those do not work it is possible the motherboard is toast. If you have access to compatible RAM you can try that too. Usually when symptoms like that arise it is bad memory, motherboard, or processor. At least in my experience it has been.

Since laptops ARE moved and 'bumped' more frequently than desktops, it might be worthwhile to check that the cpu heatsink is attached correctly.

I checked RAM in another pc and it was fine, if its the motherboard or processor, im guessing it will have to back to manufacturer.
