    Error 550 Authentication

    Hi,

I can recieve email but can't send it. I have done a search through previous posts and have tried tried the suggestion of checking the box that says "My Outgoing Server SMTP requires authenticaion" with no luck. Instead of one error message I get two. I have tried turning off my firewall for my emails also with no success. I went to my provider's (Earthlink) website but can't find any help there. Here is an example of a message I am receiving. Got any ideas.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'[email protected]' on 6/27/2006 4:20 PM

In your mail client under the advenced (outlook / outlook express) their is an option for the ougoing SMTP server to use authetication. - Best to try this !!

Generic POP3 / SMTP client email setup can be found here:

    http://easily.co.uk/index.php3?exe=f...o=s&group_id=7

See no 8 of the Outlook instructions for your problem.

Just remember to change the information to match yours !!

Thanks, but I already tried that as said. When I do, I get the following error message.

Unable to log in the the outgoing mail server (SMTP). Please verify your SMTP server and - if your server requires authentification - the authentification information on the 'More Settings' page.

    550 Error Message - Resolved

Got the problem fixed through Earthlink online tech support. This is what I was told to do.

    1) Check the box that says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" under internet email settings.
    2) Check the box below that says "Log on using" then put user name and password. Now here is the confusing part. Under username, I was told to put my earthlink email address. This is not my username.
    3) Under "Advanced" under internet email settings, I was told to change the 25 in the "Outgoing server" box to 587.

    Hope this helps someone else.
