    Unhappy installed incorrect dvd/cd drive

Hi there anyone that can help. We just purchased a new computer and added the incorrect dvd/cd writer. It should have been a lightscribe soft drive but we thought it was a samsung. Now a dvd drive doesn't register under my computer but when you go to device manager it registers a samsung drive. Have tried to uninstall the samsung and add the lightscribe drive, but everytime I restart my hp computer it just defaults back to the samsung and my lightscribe isn't registering on my computer at all. Please help an uneducated puter illiterate wannabe!!!!

Try this: disable the device in Device Manager - click the device, properties, select disable

: go back to Device manager and uninstall the device

    Shut down.

Disconnect to power and mobo connection to the dvd

    Restart (boot up)

Let sit for a couple minutes

    Shut down

    Reconnect the dvd

    Restart (boot up)

    Go from there

Why did you have to install additional drivers in the first place? Didn't you HP come with everything you need preinstalled?

Whatever the case may be, I erally can't think of much else of what CCT said. In case that doesn't work, however, use your HP recoery CD and if you have files on that PC you would like o keep, make sure you back those up, or make a "soft" recovery if you have that option.

Just a bit confused, Doll. If you purchased a new computer, all the necessary drivers, etc. should be pre-loaded. What brand and model of computer are we dealing with? This isn't a drive you added after the purchase, is it? If so, the drive should include software for it. Anyway, any additional info about your system would be very helpful.
