how i learned about chkdsk
my nforce motherboard computer decided to stop booting today.
it would start the winxp screen and after about 5 seconds would do a real quick blue screen and reboot.
i took the drive out and put it in as a slave in my intel motherboard computer.
winxp took some time booting but then it ran a chkdsk on the slave drive.
it finished and corrected errors and everything was available on the hard drive.
so i put the drive back in the 1st box and it booted fine.
guess we need to run chkdsk from time to time to ensure that the drive doesn't have problems.

Yep - although XP will decide it needs to, but does give you the option of cancelling it.
Glad you didn't lose anything.
