    Need help!!!

    Hey all.

I have a Sony Viao (I feel like I'm in a 12 step program..lol) I woke up this morning and discovered that it had crashed pretty badly. No idea why, it just did. Being the typical man, of course I didn't make a system restore disk, so off to Staples and a couple of hundred dollars later...viola...we have Windows XP again. Now I have no sound aside from the damn tower beeping at me.

I've read a few threads on hear before I posted and I have downloaded the everest program. I click Multimedia and then Windows Audio and nothing comes up "device"-wise. If I click PCI/PnP Audio (what ever that is) a device appears (Device Description Type Intel 82801FB ICH6 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-1] PCI) <--I hope that makes sense to you guys who have some idea of what you're doing.

Anyway, if someone could help me out with this, it would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Thanks!!

I'm a musician. I bought a Sony VIAO and found out they manipulate the OS for the average consumer. The software I needed to run was incompatible with their changes to the OS. Using huge amounts of audio, it didn't work for me at all. I'll never buy another Sony computer. My advice is take it back and order specifically what you need.

And the exact Vaio model number is needed too.

Sony have very good online support this is the US site - you should be able to download the appropriate driver from there.

$200 at Staples? Wow, what did they do?

Thanks guys, working on it now. As far as Staples, they just smiled while they put my shiny new XP software in a bag...sadly enough

You mean you have mislaid the original disks? Or did you Vaio come with a restore partition? If so, you could have requested a copy of the restore disks for a nominal price.

It never came with a restore disc. I was supposed to make one up using the computer. I'm not used to these fancy things...lol

But Sony would have supplied you one for much less!

Did you download the driver and install it ok?

Didn't know about ordering a restore disc from Sony. By the time I made my original post, I had already bought and installed XP. I was able to get the drivers re-installed, but now I'm having a problem running javascript. If I click on a link that is javascript, I get a little error symbol in the lower left corner of my screen. Any ideas? (I figured I'd ask you guys FIRST this time..lol)

Let's start by identifying the specific error:

    http://www.mediacollege.com/internet...sic/error.html

edit: You might wanna check that 'disable script debugging' is checked both places in IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced.

I don't think ravn00 has that sort of error....

Ravn00 do you remembering going here and clicking download now? If not, you don't have java, hence the error - click the download now link and it will install automatically online for you.
