According to Asus, that board doesn't use Nvidia drivers for the sata controller..it uses a silicon image 3114 sata driver available from the Asus website.

I'm not exactly sure, all I really know is there are 8 sata ports the silicon image chip controlls 4 and the Nforce4 chip controlls the rest.

The nforce chipset does control 4 of the sata ports and the silicone image controller controls the other red colored set
Use the black set for your drives
I have had this board replaced and my SLI deluxe replaced. the fan on the deluxe got noisy after just a few days of use
Let us know how it goes getting your board replaced

A question was asked on the Asus boards about the Nvidia drivers for that board - it is often hard to understand what the Asus advice means since they hire Chinese-English interpreters that only speak Chinese apparently.
Anyway, read here:

Sure thing format c:, once I get the board replaced i'll mark this as resolved after I update everyone on this issue. So far i'm waiting to see if there warehouse has a board in stock so I can get cross shipping.
And I see what you mean CCT, I don't understand what their saying(on a side note I often wonder if I could read another language would the non-english instructions given make more sense? for example a product made in china, would the instructions in chinese make more sense? )
Quote from the Asus website:
Question
I have found both NVIDIA RAID Class Driver and NVIDIA NForce Storage Controller when installing RAID driver on ASUS A8N-SLI in Windows XP. Which one should I choose?
Answer
Please install both drivers in case the system cannot detect the HDD.

Got my board yesterday and I think it's refurbished. I say that because it was quite dusty in some areas and the bios settings were not at their defaults as stated in the manual. Got it all setup and it all seems to be fine so far, the only thing I'm nervous about is the fact that I can't fully test all of the ports on the motherboard because I don't have equipment that connects to most of the ports, I.E Optical sound and all of that other stuff. But I suppose all is well so far.

If your using a separate sound card I would not worry about those optical ports, I use high end equipment and never had to use those other ports
Your board may have been laying around in a warehouse and was tested before being sent out to you
My new board had a beta bios on it 1011.006 version which is no longer listed on the site
What bios version did you get ?
Anyway back to testing Linux

Mine has bios version 1009. Same as my old board. right now I'm trying to figure out why I can press the button on my keyboard to make my comp sleep but pressing the button again won't wake it up, I have to press the front panel button on my computer to get it to wake up.
