Problems connecting to RDP through VPN.

    Hello,

Im trying to connect to my office via an rdp connection through a VPN. The VPN works fine and will connect no problems but when I try to connect to my desktop on the server through a remote desktop connection I get the error message "The client could not connect to the remote computer......"

My IT dept at work say its nothing wrong at their end and must be a setting on my computer. I used to be able to do this no problems from my computer but reformatted my drive awhile ago and now have had problems trying to set this up ever since. I tried another computer in my house to see if it isolated the problem to just my pc but I couldnt connect with the other pc either.

I thought it might be my router but I have no firewalls etc turned on in the router so not sure what it could be.

    Any suggestions???

What OS are you tyring to connect to? You say "desktop on the server", are you connecting to Terminal Services on a Windows Server then?

If it is just a plain XP box then check that Remote Desktop is allowed in the Windows Firewall.

Yes I am connecting to terminal services on a windows server. Its not a problem at the server end though as all of our depots across the state connect up this way. I can connect to the server from my office no problems and used to be able to do it from home at one stage but just not anymore, since I reformatted my hdd.

Well for those that are interested I fixed this problem with some help from a patient IT guy at work. It was a conflict of IP addresses. I had to change the IP address in my router as it was the same ip address that the server uses.
