    stop error c0000135 in winxp

I'm getting a stop error in windows xp home. the error number is c0000135 and it says it can't find or load advapi32.dll. I've looked both the error message and the file on the internet and they both claim this is a error associated with windows NT4.0. Is this a hold over from 4.0 or is something else weird going on here?

I think I would suggest you log on as administrator, have your XP cd ready, and go to start, Run and enter sfc /scannow

thanks I have reason to suspect the HD as a possible problem as well so I'm gonna back up now before I do more.... I'll let you know if system file checker works as soon as I get a chance.

slight problem with this. sfc doesn't run from recovery console. the computer will not boot, it has a stop error.... yes safe mode as well.

That file is not just an NT file..it is a part of an advanced API services library supporting numerous APIs including many security and registry calls. If the computer can't load that, you may want to do a boot disk virus scan, and a chkdsk /r from the repair console before trying a repair install..if it is viral in nature, a repair install will be infected too. Is the weather there as nice as it is here, Shard?

Hey Geo, yeah the weather has been nice for 2 days now... thanks for the info I was debating on whether or not to do a virus scan..... I already ran the chkdsk /r from console..... it was still running when I left last. I was told it found and corrected some things.... When I found all the nt4.0 references though that kind of threw me..... thought maybe the guys kids installed something old.... I'll do the virus run here thanks again..

Oh by the way we start our move on Dec 1st. it's just a couple of blocks but it's gonna be a job!!!!
