    Roadrunner speed help

I have a customer who has Roadrunner cable internet. It's at his business. They just installed it, and it's only 192 down. The cost for business cable is very expensive compared to residential. Anyway, he asked, if buying another modem would defeat the download restriction. In other words, does the modem lock the speed, or is it controlled elsewhere?

192 what? If it's Mbits... probably not! What package did he actually sign up for?

192 kbps. It's their lowest service. 3-1/2 times dial up.

If he wants to team modems, he will need two accounts. I don't think I should ask why he signed up for an expensive slow connection...

My question is whether the cable modem or something else locks the speed. If it's the modem, a trip to Best Buy will fix it.

Business always pays more for Internets.

A new cable modem won't change the service plan. The new modem will need to be registered on Road Runner's network, and the MAC address will be assigned the same data rate as the old hardware.

But, 192 K?? Surely this connection speed can't be right! This really isn't typical for Roadrunner. Is your customer reporting download speed from a specific website, or is he just mis-speaking? His connection rate is either mis-reported, or indicates a problem with his cable connection. Road Runner doesn't offer a plan this slow.

192 is the least expensive plan on the business side of Road Runner. Actually, they go through Time Warner. Don't know if that makes a difference. The speed maxes out at 213-218.

So you answered my question. The speed is controlled at the office, not in the modem. Thanks.

RoadRunner Business is 256Kbps down and 192Kbps up for the lowest price business..maxing out at 213-218 is probably the best you are going to get.
