Removable k missing and usb issues
Hi there
I have a few probs with usb ports.Firstly in my computer/devices with removable storage,the icon for removable disk (k is missing and my J and k ports seem to be intermittent at recognising devices when i plug them in.Also when i right click on removable disk (J all i get is the hour glass and then nothing.Any help gratefully appreciated.

Have you got service pack 2 installed?
Do you use the safely remove hardware icon near the clock to remove your usb drives?

SP2 installed and girlfriend tells me she has not used safely remove icon a couple of times when downloading music to her mp3 player,could this be the problem and how to fix.

Quite possibly the usbstor.inf file has become corrupt... you need to replace it from your XP cd. instructions here
