U.S.B. hub not charging MP3 players...

I am going on a vacation in a few weeks, and the Missus doesn't want me to bring a laptop ( or a desktop! ) on the cruise. I thought I would just use a powered U.S.B. hub to charge up my Zunes, the 2 Sansa MP3 players, and the wifes' generic player. Imagine my surprise when I tried it with an A/C powered 7 port Belkin hub and they didn't charge a bit. Anyone have any ideas? Would a different brand of hub make a difference?

They sell single chargers ( both IpodĀ® brand and others ) in my area for about $30 each, but they only charge one unit at a time, and all 4 of us will be wanting to recharge. I don't want to pay $120 just to charge up the players, so my next move is to try a different brand of hub. I saw a 7 port one with a slightly higher amperage yesterday ( $60! ) but if it works, it will be worth it.

I'm sorry, but this is all too much like taking my kids camping and having them complain about no cable TV! Where the heck are you going for this cruise; the Aleutians, the Kuril Islands? What! No scenery, no scuba diving, no duty free ports?

My God, man! This should be an occasion to rediscover the delightful way your wife's hair curls around her ears. Her delicious scent as you nuzzle the nape of her neck. Or, if you've been married as long as I have, they way the doctor removed that large mole on the side of her nose with hardly any scar. Oh, forget it! Just wrap up in a warm blanket and play shuffleboard! The music of Guy Lombardo goes well with this.

Well, two teenaged girls and two looong plane rides, so mp3 players are a bit of a necessary evil. I planned on some of that interesting "recreation" you speak of during the cruise, but I will bring a few books just in case. I ended up just buying the chargers for each unit anyway, as it just wouldn't work with a hub.
