    Computer keeps locking up

    OS xp pro, pentium 3

My start bar down there with the time and all keeps locking up, my computer is going very slow or it lockes up.

I can't get a good system restore because of prior settings. I have tried to down load windows xp pro again (in case of something missing) but it says it can't do it because I have a newer version.

This all started when I was trying to use my kodak software, I have since deleted it after it had me do an update for the software.

Any advice. Could a person do a dump and start from scratch? and if so what all would I need such as programs to ensure I would have a working computer again?

First of all you can't just go around wanting to download XP.LOL

You also left yourself open to be ridiculed with a leading question
like...."Could a person do a dump and start from scratch?BwaHaHaHa!

If you go to the below site and follow instructions.....It could
    speed things up for you.

What do you mean. I do a dump all the time and start from scratch and it's very refreshing. Make sure to wash the hands after though.

Analyzing the dump is where things get sticky.

msconfig and Verifier are two tools that give you just about total control over your start-up. msconfig controls all your start-up applications and services, verifier controls all your drivers and kernel mode items (like firewalls and other programs that run as drivers, I.E. rootkits)

Another good tool to dig into your performance is sysinternals "processor explorer", it's great for peaking into the "svchost.exe" process's and see what's really in them.
