Started my Toshiba satellite A105 and it suddenly won't boot. In safe mode(s), it stops trying to process something called Mup.sys.

Any idea what Mup.sys is and what it is trying to do?

Or was that driver successul and has system died on next driver?

Jmar2, the mup.sys driver is a networking driver, and if it displays, that means it has loaded and the next driver is the problem. One cause (naturally) is a really fried Windows installation, but a BIOS problem can also be the cause.

If the ESCD data (Extended System Configuration Data) stored in the BIOS is corrupt, this can cause the system to hang. The ESCD database is a list of system resources such as IRQs assigned to devices in the system. Many BIOS have an option in the setup menu to refresh the ESCD list, and sometimes that is all it takes to clear the error. If that fails, I would boot from your OS CD, enter the Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r.

If the computer still fails to boot, download Toshiba's current BIOS and update the system. If flashing the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem, run a repair installation of Window and finally, be prepared to nuke the whole thing and start over. Generally, one of the first two steps should take care of things.
