Windows XP w/ SP2 cannot restart or shutdown
I'm having this problem on a latpop here at work. It's an IBM ThinkPad T43 and I can't seem to pinpoint why it's doing this. It won't even restart or shutdown in Safe Mode.
I've even tried doing a diagnostic startup and there is still no change. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is the profile unloading correctly?
What does the event viewer have to say?
What's plugged into the external ports?

It seems that the profile is unloading correctly. I've installed the Profile Hive CleanUp software from MS and there is no change. Event viewer doesn't show me anything useful. And nothing is plugged into the external ports.
I had it run a scandisk and the laptop wouldn't even restart after the scandisk completed.

I've just noticed that random files are compressed. Is there one command that will go through the drive and decompress all the files?

No... and you may find that you are out of disk space if you do... just how much disk space is left?

Over 45GB of free space but I bit the bullet and re-imaged the PC and all is well. I would of loved to have figured it out, oh well.
