Recovery Disk
Hi, this is probably a very basic question but computers aren't my strong point! I have Win ME and need to use the recovery disc and usually the computer reads it while it's loading and goes straight to it but my CDROM drive isn't working, i have an external disc drive connected to the computer but don't know how to get the computer to load from this when i turn it on?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Welcome.
If you can post a little more information about your system people will be better able to help you.
What is your PC/laptop? I presume that since you haven't just replaced the optical drive it is probably a laptop?
Are you trying to reload the operating system?
If you are using an external optical drive, how is it connected? Most likely USB?
Somewhere in your PC's BIOS there will be a setting for boot device order. (People will need to know what your system is to tell you how to get into the BIOS -- most commonly pressing the Delete key when the computer is first turned on is the way in). The BIOS may or may not list USB devices as a boot option. If it doesn't list USB devices, you are probably out of luck. And even if USB devices are listed, you may still be out of luck if you have a system that requires a proprietary, say HP or Compaq branded, USB device for boot and your external optical drive is not such.
More info from you will help everyone.
