    Lightbulb disk size

Simple Q: I recently installed NT 4.0 Workstation - 6G HD. However, in a senile moment, I only formatted 500M and forgot to format the rest of the partition. I tried to use disk administrator to extend and format the partition but it won't work. do I have to reinstall workstation again?

    Thanks.

Did you install the service packs? Sometimes windows has problems seeing the full drive...although it is usually for drives bigger than yours.

Can you make another partition on the empty space using DA? You should at least be able to do that. I think you have to create a partition in the empty space before you can extend another volume into it?

This is the system/boot partition that is 500mb? You can't extend (add to) a volume if it is the System or boot partition with disk administrator. I don't know if partition magic will work, someone here can confirm that.

You should be able to asign a diferent drive letter to the leftover and format it. However 500 MB system partition is not going to work out.

Will partition magic work? Yes. Do you run the risk of having an unstable and buggy machine. Yes. But sometimes it does work. Best advice is to reformat

I've had no problems with Partition Magic extending partitions. You'll lose all the data on the second partition (the one that is becomming the extra space) but that doesn't seem like it'll affect you.

    Wink

I'll probably reformat. I assigned a drive letter to the free space, then tried to format, but it seemed to be hanging up there.
I really would just like one drive.
If I reformat and reinstall NT, can I have just one drive (I guess that will be partitioned)?

    Thanks again
