WMP - Poor Preformance
Hi there,
WMP 11 (vista) is terrible to play videos. normal .wmv files play OK at normal size but when in full screen they are horribly choppy. in addition my HD wmv are choppy even at normal size and the audio and video are completely off sync.
all these videos played perfect on my previous laptop which had 1.4 GHz and 512 MB RAM. my new lappy is an AMD dual core 64 bit 1.6 GHZ processor with 2 gigs RAM and nVidia Go 6150 graphics. i know its not hardware cause i can play doom 3 no problem.
i've tried turning aero off and on and installing third party codecs which shouldn't be neccessary
thanks in advance

Not sure if this helps, but I have had similar issues with WMP 11 on my laptop. I've found that if I run my laptop on batteries, I get big issues with choppiness etc, whereas when I run it off mains power, most DVD's work, but sometimes I have problems with audio and video not synching. I've just dug up this KB article, which mentions playing around with some of the settings within tools > options > performance tab. 2 settings which catch my eye are optimise performance for batteries and turn on directx video acceleration. Not sure if these will help, but will try them tonight and see.
N.B: The laptop I use is a HP nw8440, using an Intel core duo T2600 processor, 2GB RAM and an ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 video card.
