Driver update for Epsonstylus c84
I'm trying to find the best driver for my epson stylus c84. One place (epson) i got a driver named epson 10823.
Epson Stylus C84 series Printer Driver Disk v5.4bA Driver v5.41 for Windows Xp.
The other one is Epson Easy print versiion 3.10aA A easy way to print from an application directly to the printer bypassing the regular printer driver user interface. This package will allow the use of selet Epson printers with your multifunction Device or Epson Scanner.
I have a Dell Dimension C521 running xp. I installed the first driver (10823). I can't find the printer icon on the task bar so I cant run the usual test , like plotting test nor cleaning heads etc. I haven't even tried the 2nd driver - I'm intimidated....This all started because when I installed the disk that came with the printer it gave me a message that XP does not support this epson driver.
help i'm lost!

Epson drivers come in two parts, the bit that actually drives the printer and then the printer monitor software. Install the second file you gave towdesign, it will give you the icon by the clock you were looking for.
CCT's link takes you straight to the c84 downloads page.

Yes, the Epson Status Monitor is a separate download from the printer driver. You can print fine without it and even run maintenance tasks from the printer properties box. I've seen many a machine where the Status Monitor has caused slow printing and sometimes has hung up. You might want to try living without it for a while and see how things go.

I don't suppose anyone noticed that the basic printer driver the OP mentioned appears to be a different version than what the Epson people have available at the site I referenced.
I am never happy when such things happen because the Google engine seems to ignore name-Brands in searches and can lead one astray,
Perhaps I am paranoid (actually, I am).
In any event, I would suggest you use add/remove programs to get rid of that other printer driver and install the one I noted.

Thanks - that is why I was getting so confused with the different drivers for my epson. It's dangerous for people like me that are not quite sure what to do.

towdesign, the simple truth is that none of us are sure what to do all the time. That's exactly what makes forums like this so valuable.
