RPL in mixed NT/NetWare environment
Ths is a bit of a conundrum that Novell cannot seem to answer, and Microsoft will not support (even for money!).
What we have at the moment is an RPL environment whereby the diskless workstations remoteboot DOS and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 from NetWare 4.11. In a lab environment, we have set up RPL on a Windows NT 4.0 Server with SP4 applied. We've then taken the diskless workstations (one of each NIC type) and configured them to remoteboot Windows 95 from the NT server. The problem is that when we place the NT server on the same LAN as the Novell server, the diskless workstations remoteboot to Novell only. Apparently the NetWare servers are replying to the request for server faster than the NT server, even when the workstation and NT server are on the same segment.
OK, my question: Is there a parameter in NetWare that can slow down the response to RFS, thereby giving the NT server time to respond? In NT, the workstation needs to be individually configured with the full MAC address, whereby NetWare only requires the vendor ID (the first 6 digits of the MAC address), so that will keep workstations which still need to boot to NetWare on the NetWare servers and off the NT server. Any input would be extremely helpful, since both NetWare and Microsoft are claiming ignorance on this one.
