    Welcome ot Windrivers crutchism

Where it says no audio device, it should be on a drop down list - if you click the little down arrow, do you get a choice?

Have you checked in bios/setup (f10 when you see the little line in the top right hand side of the compaq screen when you first start the machne) to check that sound is enabled?

What was the previous operating system? Have you been to compaq and put in your full model number to see if there are newer drivers?

OK, so was this an upgrade or did you format and reinstall?
Exactly what model compaq is this?

    BIOS, sound is enabled.

No that's the type not the model. here is how to find the model number

Start, run, type in services.msc and click ok
Look for the audio service - is it automatic and started?

Posting two separate threads will get you confusing replies.

If you would post the compaq model number, then you can have a definitive answer.

I have merged your threads together.
