No Sound with Windows XP Pro
I have installed Windows XP Pro on a Compaq Deskpro EN Desktop PC.....I now have no sound...in Audio Devices it shows "no audio device"....Multimedia is SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio -all the drivers are there with no explanation points or question marks...
What can I do to get sound back?????

Welcome ot Windrivers crutchism
Where it says no audio device, it should be on a drop down list - if you click the little down arrow, do you get a choice?
Have you checked in bios/setup (f10 when you see the little line in the top right hand side of the compaq screen when you first start the machne) to check that sound is enabled?
What was the previous operating system? Have you been to compaq and put in your full model number to see if there are newer drivers?

Well, I had XP home edition before this and the sound worked fine...in Audio Devices, everything is greyed out (cannot click dropdown)....Audio is enabled in BIOS....

In Audio Devices everything is greyed out....cannot make any changes.
BIOS, sound is enabled.
Previously there was XP Home Edition....sound worked fine.

This is a Compaq Deskpro EN Desktop PC 1.0 ghz

No that's the type not the model. here is how to find the model number
Start, run, type in services.msc and click ok
Look for the audio service - is it automatic and started?

I look in device manager and see Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media control Devices, SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio, unknown device and Video Codecs (none have ?/!).
