    Modem problem

    Hi

Since I got my new comp my modem keeps randomly going off every 3 minutes or so, it comes back on after about 2 minutes tho.

It isnt my isp as I have spoken to them and the modem is fine, same one I had before on my old comp, in fact everything is the same really, I have tried disabling virus protectors etc to see if that helps but it doesnt.

Any ideas what I can check?

    Thanks

In Control Panel click on Network Connections and then right click on Local Area Connection the Properties then click on the Configure button and make sure under Power Management that the Lan card isn't set to be turned off to save power.

Well if you don't find anything I wouldn't believe the isp as I have seen it several times where they say it is fine and it be the modem.

To CCT - I dont see that option, when I click on configure I just have two tabs, 'General' and 'Driver' and neither have the power management option.

To NooNoo - Its a Zoom USB adsl modem

To Kodiak - I have asked on adsl forums too and it seems no-one else is having this prob, as I said it only started when I got my new comp, it was fine before that.

    Thanks

My advice stands but now applies to your USB ports - check that the one your modem is attached too doesn't have that power management checked.

Agreed. If power management isn't the problem, then you need to describe in more detail "keeps randomly going off every 3 minutes or so"
For example, what happens to the lights on the modem? What are you doing on the computer at the time? If you sit there with just one webpage open (not a dynamic one such as php or asp, but a boring straight text html page) does it still do it?

While the pattern may be hard to discern, it is rarely completely random.
