You should start your search at the manufacturers' site and, if they have no support or whatever, then try:
http://www.sis.com/download/agreemen...url=/download/

You should uninstall the 'old' one - the fact that it doesn't work negates any problem with the 'old' one being newer than the one SiS has for download.
Uninstall the old one, reboot.
Then download the 'new' one - I suggest you make a Desktop folder called Sound and download to there. Then, you have it pegged for future needs.

So, you download it to a desktop file, then what? Did you open the folder and install or unzip or what?

Well, all things being equal, if you download the 7018 Sis Win XP driver it should work.
So now you need to check your sound is turned on - look in Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices and click Audio - what is shown for the default device?
Is there and entry under hardware (same access) that says something like 'SiS High Definition Audio' and when you click properties does the 'device usage' show 'use this device enabled' or similar?

If it shows, on that same window, click driver then click update and send the search to the folder you made where you unzipped the drivers (should have been the desktop folder I asked you to make).
edit: the key things is 'says something like' - you have to identify the sound chip/controller so you can tell it to get the drivers

If you enter Device Manager do you have any yellow markers?
On what if any?

Well, that may explain why you have no sound - it appears that your sound chip/controller has gone away.
Check in your Bios, see if sound is turned on (may or may not have that setting)
Make sure plug and play is enabled in Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services (should be set as automatic)
