    Question NT & Network cards

I'm new in NT world, and I have a problem: installing NT Workstation (or Server), if PC has a network card, I could not install it, because after rebooting, NT gives me an error and suggests me to control system events.
    1) When I install the Network card, I must give an IP address. Can I give any value or there is a default value? Pc is not connected, I must install it, and then my client will configure it.
    2) Error could be associated to the fact that pc is not currently connected to a network?
I have tryed removing all protocols (TCP/IP etc.) and problem seems to disappear.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

you have just discovered that NT is NOT a plug and pray operating system. I have also had difficulty with NIC detection in the NT setup programs. The solution if you are installing the workstation version is to simply skip the network portion of the setup and install the adapter manualy once the os has completed loading. This method can also work in NT server however, things can get a bit sticky depending on the role the server is going to play.
the best plan is to make sure you have a good set of drivers for your card on a floppy somewhere so that there is no searching. If you are still having problems, test the card in a different machine with 95 or 98 installed to determine whether or not your problem is hardware or software related

hope this is of some help

    Question

The problem is: With NT Server I'm not able to skip network card installation (how I could?), with NT Workstation I could. After installation, if I install network card, after rebooting System gives me an error, because it is not able to find the network (the system is not connected to a network). The only way that I found to not obtain an error every time I start NT is to remove each protocol (TCP/IP etc.) from network property. There's another way (more simple) to install a network card without errors?

im not completely sure about server, but i know on workstation there is an option to install an ms loopback adapter when a normal adapter is not being loaded at install, but you want to configure all the protocols. on workstation , it is listed among the rest of the cards
