Looks like that board has 2 memory banks, I'm assuming you're running 1 512MB DIMM and not 2 256MB DIMMS, is that correct?

If so, is the DIMM you installed double sided? Here is a list of reccomended RAM for your board.

The CPU has nothing to do with it.
Its much more likely as 3fingersalute said the type of ram you are using.
    Is your ram listed there?
    Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
    AMD FX 8350 4ghz OCTO-Core
    Windows 8.1 PRO 64
    Adata 256 gig SSD
    Kingston HyperX 1600 16 Gigs
    Sapphire R9 280 2gig

aamar, you've mentioned in another post that the recognized memory size reduced after the CPU was changed. As Ferrit said, there's no reason for the change of CPU to have any effect, but something could have happened during the upgrade process.

If the memory stick was bumped, its seating in the slot may be slightly dislodged, or a contact become bad. Ejecting the card and re-inserting it in the slot may solve it. But remember to have the system turned off at the mains, not just powered down to standby, as the memory could then still have standby voltage applied to it.

If that has no effect, another possibility is the memory card could have received a static zap and been damaged. You'd need to try it in another system to see if its size is correctly identified.

Well, next would be to try another stick of RAM and see if it is detected correctly, or try the current memory in a different computer. This was just an upgrade right? Not the result of a power surge, brownout, or some such?
