anybody got HP Pav A335W recovery CDs?

    Hey techs,

Just got this one in. Needs restored. User did not have recovery CD set (imagine that). So, I proceeded to make a set with the built in recovery creation program. Well, I guess the entire recovery partition is screwed. When I look at the folders, its all just random characters....

So, I complained to HP about it, but they offered no help at all (imagine that x 2)

Does anyone out there have a set I can get? part #5069-6299

Fits many others. I don't want to have to buy these, when the PC should make a set...

I ran into this a couple times where the HP would not make a set. I actually checked my Local Best Buy tech department and convinced them to make me a set. They usually keep a set from their display models. They may have one unless the PC is old. I agree, that you should not have to purchase if the PC is designed to make a set.

HP (and other vendors that use this type of restore) should really stress that this should be the first thing you do when you set up your PC. I know I always tell my clients when the say they are going to buy a PC of that sort.

Have you tried running a restore right off the partition by pressing F10 at the BIOS screen. I think its F10.
At the source of every error which is blamed on the computer, you will find at least two human errors, including the error of blaming it on the computer.

Well, don't buy the set. Let the customer do it. Or at least pay for it. HP ships the recovery set in something like to 2 to 3 days, and the cost is around $16. Considering the number of disks in the set, plus shipping, the cost is way cheap.

Yes, disks should ship with the machine. They don't, however. Whine all you want to about shoulda, coulda, and if. Doesn't change a thing. Get the disks, fix the machine, charge the customer, collect your reward. Drop some pointed hints about HP vs. your systems. Remember, in the end, the money isn't coming out of your pocket, and if the customer made some poorly informed choices, that isn't your fault.

go online with hp support. there are some extra tools in the recovery partition that may allow the restore from f10. they will provide you with the details.

I had one, and even after ordering the disks, I had to get online help to complete the recovery. I wish I could be more specific, but it was a few months back.
