    No Spellchecker

Not sure where to put my query as I have Works 8 and not Office per se.

After doing a clean reinstall of Windows XP Pro and reinstalling Works I find I have no spellchecker in Outlook Express although it is working in Works Word Processor yet I had it in Outlook Express with my old Windows install.

I have done lots of Windows installs most versions but this is the first time Spellchecker has been missing in Outlook Express.

How do I get my spellchecker please?

My problem is pretty much similar to this one.

I installed ie7 and then uninstalled it back to ie6. In this process I lost the speller-checker of outlook express. Every time I attempt to write a new message or to go online windows installer attempts to run and it attempts to install something from drive A (I don’t remember I installed anything from drive A on this machine) need to do this bit of tweakingp.

The installer freezes everything and clicking the button Cancel does not help. I have to use Task Manager to end the processes iexplore.exe and msimn.exe. Finally I unchecked Windows Installer in msconfig-services. Now I can go online after installer img.jpg flashes once. I can also write an email but when I click send I get the prompt saying the speller-checker was halted and it gives me the option to send the message anyway and I confirm.

I visiting Microsoft KB website and the link you provided in another similar situation, I could not make any progress. The files CSAPI3T1.DLL and MSPFR32.DLL are in their proof directory and the registry is OK. The file Mssp232.dll is missing.

Where I could find the missing file to download, would download and copying in the proof folder be the complete solution?

No Noonoo, I have not been able to fix it yet. I have Office 2000 installed on XP home edition. It works flawlessly.

The speller-checker works well in Office. It does not work in outlook express. But the problem appears to be more severe than just the speller-checker.

I couldn’t run Frontpage. I tried to uninstall it, that was a forbidden task. I tried to install it atop the existing one. No installation was permitted. I tried to uninstall Office, that was another forbidden task. I could not install it atop the existing one either.

The installed applications work fine except for outlook sending mail and frontpage, but I cannot install anything or uninstall anything. I wonder if there is a fix around it other than to reinstall XP from scratch and hassle with the updates and reinstalling the applications. I will have to wait until Christmas break to have time to work it out that way.

So far no signs of viruses or malware.

What's the actual error message? Sounds like you uninstalled some other things while doing IE7...

Try reinstalling SP2 (if it was installed separately) and windows installer
