    P5S800-VM vga problem

Have a strange problem on the above ASUS board, seems to boot fine but constantly gives me the "no agp card" beep. Does this if I try the onboard VGA or put a card in it. Can't get into the BIOS to change settings without a display!

Tried resetting CMOS jumper and removing the battery but no joy, any suggestions?

Looking through the manual (both original and updated English versions) it would seem the default for some strange reason is the PCI slot VGA with options for Onboard AGP or slot AGP.

Since that is illogical, I would assume that the board should boot to onboard AGP if no other cards are installed and bios is reset to basic specs.

That being the case, if you can't boot and get basic video with no other cards installed and a reset bios, I'd say your motherboard is broken.

edit: there are apparently 2 versions of that board that are NOT equal - http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:...nk&cd=18&gl=ca

Never thought of a PCI card but I don't have one spare so can't try that.

Have reseated the AGP card many times and tested it in another box.

Fully reset the BIOS back to factory but to no avail.

I have another spare AGP card I can try in it but failing that (or getting a PCI one) I guess its bin fodder!

Don't despair yet - try one more reset of the CMOS/RTC Ram:

To clear RTC, Turn OFF the PC and unplug the power cord. Press the power button. Being careful to discharge any static electricity from yourself, open the case and remove the CMOS battery. Set the CLRTC1 jumper cap from pins 2-3 (default) to 1-2 for 15 seconds and then return the cap to pins 2-3 and re-install the battery. start the PC and enter BIOS setup.

IF THAT FAILS, you could try a Bios Flash.

Cheers for the suggestions, tried two PCI cards i managed to acquire and another AGP card (Ti4800).

Also cleared the CMOS as suggested here.

Same problem, repetitive "no agp" beep and no screen.

OMG - just tried another monitor - no light changes, nothing. Just the looping beeps (one long two short).

The cards are probably ok, the beep doesn't differentiate between the card and the video circuitry - it's just saying video won't work (assuming this is award bios).
