    Memory Cards

This question relates to MP3 players as well as digital cameras.

I have always used xD cards for my Fuji cameras but I now find myself in a jungle because I have reserved an MP3 player that takes MMC or SD cards, meanwhile my newest Fuji camera S9600 takes CF as well as xD cards.

My question is what is the difference between SD, MMC and CF as they all look much the same at least from pictures? I notice MMC is cheaper than SD and the MP3 player takes both so can I assume the music will sound better with the more expensive ie SD card?

No, it won't sound better... the sound is generated by the sound electronics, not by the storage media.

Here is a useful article There is a table half way down showing the different sizes and types of card. As you can see they are all different sizes. I suppose the difference would be best illustrated by different makes of car are different sizes, they all do the same basic job, it's just the style, engine type and quality differ.

There won't be any difference between the sound of files, that's determined by the bitrate the files are recorded at. The cards are merely storage, so if you have the same file on MMC and SD, they would sound identical. MMC is the older technology, they are almost identical in size & shape. The SD card has a little switch on the side so you can write protect the contents if you wish, to prevent accidental erasure. CF is significantly larger, but has the memory controller in the package, so it's actually simpler for devices to communicate with.

And of course, NooNoo posted while I was typing
