if you look at the bottom left on the status bar (where it should say done when a page has fully loaded) do you see a quick flash of dnserror.htm at the end?
Possible causes
Browser Hijack
LSP problem
BHO behaving badly
also with ie7 closed try start, run, cmd
type in
ipconfig /flushdns
hit enter
reboot.
If that doesn't work, a hijack this log would be next.

In IE6, when I type 'cmd /k ipconfig /flushdns' I get the flush confirmation ONLY if IE6 is running.
Is IE7 different, or am I misinterpreting the info displayed?

yes CCT. IE whatever version should be closed. A cmd window should be opened by start, run and typing in cmd and pressing ok.

Did some further playing - I can use the ipconfig /flushdns with or without IE6 running - seems to make no difference that I can see as long as my internet connection is working.

In post 4 you said:
"also with ie7 closed try start, run, cmd
type in
ipconfig /flushdns
hit enter
reboot."
You said that again in post 6.
But, I am finding it doesn' matter whether it is closed or not, as long as a LAN connection is made.

I was answering your question CCT... you were entering a command sequence "into ie6". It wasn't what I was suggesting that tcpip007 should do. I was suggesting he does it in a stand alone cmd window and I was trying to clarfiy that ie6/7 should not be used to enter the commands... as you seemed to have done.
Again, it does not matter if there is a lan connection or not as to whether flushdns will work or not.

I simply meant that I don't have to 'close' or 'open' (shut down or run) IE6 to use that command BUT I don't get confirmation that it successfully flushed the dns resolver cache if I don't have an internet connection active. Since my internet connection is established under what MS$ calls the Local Area Connection heading, I call it that (LAN).

Then the is something wrong, because I can disable my LAN and it will still give me the confirmation message.
