    Laptop Shuts Off

    I have a Compaq Armada 110

I bought it for parts and end up fixing it. I installed a new Pentium III 800Mhz Socket 370 Processor CPU because I bought the laptop without one and it runs fine until it starts to shut off.

    Heres the problem

And when I turn on my laptop after a few minutes it shuts off and the bottom feels hot and the fan don't blow i'm not sure if thats the problem.

    Processor
    INTEL Celeron 800

    Chipset
Intel 440BX chipset, PCI bus Version 2.1

    Hard Drive
    80 GB

    Memory
    576 MB SDRAM

    Video Chipset
ATI Rage LT Pro 3D 2X AGP Video Controller

    VIDEORAM
    8MB

And when I turn on my laptop after a few minutes it shuts off and the bottom feels hot and the fan don't blow i'm not sure if thats the problem.

When I turn on the laptop and look below to check the fan just sits there not moving. so do you think thats the issue. Quick question what if the power to the fan don't work what should I do (Just throwing that out there in case it's not the fan) becuase I don't want to waste 20 bucks something that's not broken.

OK I check and shake the fan wire plug and it starts to spin full speed then it stops and does it again. Is that normal for this kind of laptop

So it is nomal for a laptop fan to wind-up for 3 seconds and shut off and then wind-up again after 3 minutes and shut off again. I didn't have to wobble it. It was just loose

I will have to do this one by one.

Non-Slip Laptop Cooler & Heat shield XPAD NO FANS NOISEProduct Information
The Xpad's innovative design shields user from laptop heat while improving laptop cooling without noisy fans or awkward straps. Its clever ABS composite structure design allows it to have a thin profile while providing an amazing structural stiffness. The Xpad is sized optimally to accommodate most laptop sizes while maintaining its portability, and yet it is large enough to sit comfortabily on most users. In addition, the Xpad provides a stable laptop pad by smartly employing non-slip interfaces to comfortably secure the laptop on the user's lap and prevent it from slipping & sliding - a feature the laptop user will greatly appreciate after discovering the Xpad.

    Features
LIGHT-WEIGHT: 1 lb. is about the weight of a soda can. Xpad feels amazingly light!
UNIVERSAL FIT: Xpad will accommodate Laptops with screen sizes up to 17 inches!

ERGONOMIC: Optimally sized to fit on your lap and to stay put on an incline without sliding!

PORTABLE: Slim profile means it will fit in most Laptop bags along with your Laptop!

    Faqs
    What is Xpad?
Xpad is a portable non-slip laptop pad that cools the laptop computer while protecting the user from laptop heat. It features an elegant lightweight design, thin profile, comfortable padding, and smart non-slip interfaces.

Do laptop computers really get that hot?
Different laptop bottoms give varying heat signatures. In general, high-performance laptops, wi-fi usage, heavy processing usage, or heavy disk access usage tends to give off more heat. In our experiments, we have observed laptops with temperatures exceeding 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Where are the cooling fans?
Xpad does not use any fans to cool your Laptop. Your Laptop has been painstakingly engineered so that it can cool itself. Your Laptop cooling system is designed to inhale cool air and exhale hot air through ventilation holes using its own cooling fans. All your Laptop needs is extra breathing room so its natural airflow is not restricted - Xpad provides this extra breathing room with the X-pattern ventillation channel. A Laptop cooler with fans could create turbulence in the natural airflow that your Laptop needs and interfere with its cooling system. With the Xpad, there are no battery draining fans or extra power cords to deal with. Get the smart cooling solution that works. Get the Laptop pad that is more than just a Laptop cooler - get Xpad for Laptop.

Wouldn't the 'X' pattern non-slip rubber pads on the Xpad block the ventilation holes of my laptop?
No, they won't. There are rubber feet on the bottom of your laptop that will sit on top of the 'X' pattern rubber pads on the Xpad. The rubber feet will provide clearance between the bottom of the laptop and the 'X' pattern rubber pads. The laptop rubber feet on 'X' pattern rubber pads create a high friction rubber-on-rubber contact to provide a non-slip interface between the Xpad and your laptop without using any awkward straps -- your laptop will feel like one with the Xpad.

My new PowerBook does not have any ventilation holes on the bottom - will the Xpad still work?
Yes, most definitely. The Xpad has worked very well for PowerBooks.

What laptop sizes will Xpad accomodate?
Xpad will accommodate laptops with screen sizes up to 17 inches.

I have a 17" laptop that's larger than the Xpad. Will the Xpad accomodate it?
Yes, it is a universal fit design. The Xpad will work as long as some part of the rubber feet on the bottom of your laptop touches the 'X' pattern on top of the Xpad. Your rubber feet do not need to completely cover the 'X' pattern for the Xpad to work. Also, if you have a laptop without ventilation holes on the bottom such as an Apple PowerBook you don't need to have the rubber feet come in contact with the 'X' pattern - the Xpad will work since the laptop casing is designed as a heat sink.

My laptop is smaller than the Xpad - Why don't you make a smaller Xpad?
Good question. It is still more comfortable to use your smaller laptop on the larger Xpad because you need the larger, 'wider', Xpad to have your laptop sit comfortably on your lap - otherwise you may have to put your knees together to keep your laptop from falling through.

Is the Xpad comfortable to use?
There is an EVA padding on the bottom of Xpad that not only serves as the third layer of heat insulation for the Xpad but also provides comfortable padding on your lap.

Will the Xpad stick to the bottom of my laptop like a 'sticker'?
No, Xpad is not a 'sticker'. The rubber anti-skid pads (the X-Pattern) that the laptop sits on are high friction rubber pads but they are not 'stickers'.

What other Xpad colors are available?
We currently offer the Xpad in silver color only.

Does the Xpad require any assembly?
Xpads come fully assembled - no assembly required

You have a small vented area, a small fan, a small heat exchanger prone to 'crudding-up', and they need cleaning occassionally.

Fans fail. Bios settings for cooling get re-set. Connections fail.

Adding an aftermarket cooling platform is all well and good AFTER you check the basic goods.

You have to consider lappy's componets are small cramped in small enclosure which makes them tougher to cool than desktop pc's. This is the reason I suggest cooling pads w/fans "in all cases the noise level of cooling pad fans do not exceed the laptop itself.
So should I go for the Xpad are the 3 Fans
