    Hp 5150 Install

I am trying to install a HP 5150 printer but it will start to install and stop. When I plug it in I don't get the found new hardware message as I get with most usb hardware. If I use the "Add New Printer", I get the printer icons but it will not print a test page. I used the cd that came with the printer and I downloaded a driver from HP. Below are the specs of my computer.

    Gateway Select 1000

    AMD K7 1001Mhz
    NEC DV-5700A; DVDrom
    CD R/RW 8x4x32
    42.93 GB
    128 MB
    BCM V.90 56K-Com3
    3 ½ Standard
    NVIDIA GeForce2 MX(Gateway)
    Creative SB Live Series(WDM)
    USB & BCM Network
    Windows XP Pro

Did you try the proper install method?

If you haven't, then remove ALL the HP 5150 drivers and start over.

edit: further info and a repair tool which you could try: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...153477&lang=en

Can you try the printer on another computer?
When you plug it in, is it powered up and ready?

USB printers can be tricky - you need to install the software before you plug in the usb and only plug it in when the software requests you do.

Uninstall the printing software in safemode
Remove any printer copies and say yes to removing the drivers. Reboot

Check your usb port you want to use is working - do you have any other usb devices you can try in that port?

If the usb port appears to be fine, reboot, install the software from the CD and only plug in the printer when it asks you to.

In your list about - if the 128mb refers to ram, you need at least 256 and preferably 512. If it refers to the video card, then that's fine.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

The printer is HP Deskjet 5150 Color Inkjet Printer, not the all-in-one connected to that link to HP. I will try the methods and suggestions that were given though, there and here.
