Anyone have any idea why the Vista Burn button facility should suddenly stop working. Its Vista HP. Even the riight click, send to CDR doesnt do anything.

    Any number of things...
What does device manager say about the drive?
Have you turned off Vista recording?
Have you installed other burning software?

It may not only be a question of what you have installed, but what you have uninstalled. Removing the trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 from my Vista Business computer caused all of my drives to vanish; physical and virtual. The old filter driver issue is still alive and well.

Drive shows as working OK in Device Manager. Its an IDE drive. I have swapped it for two other DVDRW drives, one IDE and one SATA, with no difference.

Nero was on from the machine being new (and the burn button did used to work), but the same version weve used a million times before without this issue. It was uninstalled to see if it was the cause.

Vista burning has been turned off, then back on etc etc.

When the machine was first brought in, it did suffer from occasional video problems - ie the graphics would drop out of Aero. This turned out to be one of the two 1.0Gb sticks being duff. Since updated chipset and BIOS. It is an nForce chipset.
If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Since creating a new user with admin rights, the burn button has vanished. The recording tab has vanished from properties of the drive, and the changing the reg key entries doesnt turn it on or off as it did before I added the user.
    Im lost now...........

OK, so this new user... is the only user on the machine? And if not, the burn button has vanished from every profile?

Spent hours on this last night.
The burn button only appears on the original user profile.
The burn button is not there on any other profile created.
Tried changing various reg key entries. Tried pretty much everything I could find by googling and from our combined knowledge here. In the end it was taking far too much time, and it was easy to back up the users settings and restore it to a fresh installation. Took less time, and problem solved.
