Hard drive slow initialise
Replaced WD 500GB with quieter Seagate 500GB drive, After a day got a lovely message "INVALID SYSTEM DISK, PLEASE REPLACE.....BLAH BLAH",To find out that it's intialisation process is a bit too slow to my Foxconn via based motherboard.
Tried fiddle a bit with the bios to show boot menu and stuff, But the drive lags a 1-2 seconds behind.
Thought about replacing SATA DVD-R to an IDE one...That it'll take time for the board to recognise on boot....Any other ideas ?

Change the boot order. Put hard drive last in boot order. Put as many devices before the hard drive as possible.

Some bioses also have the ability to delay the hard drive spin up to prevent a large initial load on the powersupply - see if the bios does that and it is correctly configured.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

This does not seem normal...
Better check the drive ->

Agreed. If SMART data shows abnormally long spinup time = short motor life (over dissipation) or under clearance bearings (risk of seizing).

Some motherboards utilizing both Sata and IDE allow for setting a bios IDE detect time from 0-30 seconds or so.
If you have it, set it to 30.
Should delay post sufficiently.

Ok Folx, Checked the drive with seagate utils, Long and short test and all was fine.
Replaced the DVD-R to an LG IDE one and tried to shut down the computer completely, waited a minute and switched it on - Works fine now.
Did not find a way to stall the bios a bit (there is an option to auto-open the boot selection menu, But if drive is not recognised before the menu starts, the drive line disappears).
Bios stall - Another factor to take into account when considersing building one of my super computers to be.....
It seems that costier boards DOES have some features that comes as useful when you need high performance computer (Control fan speed, Boot menu selection, Auto delay boot and more....)

The Foxconn K8T890M2AA-KRS2H / RS2H have had a Bios update to adress hard drive detection time settings:

Maybe your board has also.

Bye the way, Replacement of DVD-R from sata to IDE also solve my inability to install winxp pro.....
Something is f@#$ed up with it's sata chipset on a basic level which is fixed under windows

Can you now re-install the Sata dvd and have it work?

NO. I tried several SATA dvd-r's and all gave me same installation problems. Only could install xp from an IDE CDROM and from the new IDE DVD-R, And if your question is regarding the hard drive boot delay, I think that only my drive replacement to IDE helped with it.

Yes, you said that. BUT, now that XP is installed, can you install the Sata dvd?

Given you couldn't install from a SATA DVD and given you have these odd boot timings, this might not bode well for the motherboard....

V interesting post got a couple of NEC SATA DVD drives en route. Foxconn aside are there any issues with using these as boot/install drives?
