    Resolved [RESOLVED] Convert to ntfs

Windows xp service pack 2. Customer used command line to convert c drive from fat32 to ntfs. The computer restarted and ran a chkdsk. It was taking hours, so they went home for the day. Don't know if chkdsk completed, and the volume was converted to ntfs or not. Now the drive cannot be read. Disk management shows the partition, as basic, but not whether it is fat 32 or ntfs. Clicking on it in My Computer, receives the following reply: F:\is not accessable. The directory is corrupt and unreadable.

Any way to fix this? Recover any files??

Could try some data recovery software as long as you didn't overwrite the data yet. I haven't done that in ages so I can't even recall a good program though. However there is a 60% chance that you'll get everythng back if you use one from download.com. Just don't be surprised if you have to use the slower way of pulling data to increase chances of recovery. Depending on the drive size it might take a day or two if not more. Once the recovery is done I'd suggest a test to check if the drive is good with microscope or another bootable test software and after that if it passes just do a format in NTFS. (FYI when you do the data recovery slave the drive and copy the data to the master if you recover to the drive you're extracting data from you'll overwrite what you're looking for)
One Script to rule them all.
    One Script to find them.
One Script to bring them all,
    and clean up after itself.

I was never aware this was an issue with a solution. Thanks CCT maybe I can really recover my MP3 and program collection after all since I had the same issue with a drive but chose not to do anything with it until I was able to afford an exact duplicate to use for data recovery.
