Very Slow Spin Up time

My CDROM drive has a long Spin Up time. When an application asks for a CD, I have to hit the "OK" button rapidly for 10 Seconds or so, till the CD spins up. Ive tried several CDROM drives....6X, 24X, 40X. Why dont my Applications wait long enough? Its like they dont appreciate the time to Spin up. Apps I have trouble with include but not limited to....HP Direct CD, and Kids Games that require a CD. It seems as though even Windows wont wait for a spin up. Is there a setting somewhere i can adjust to improve this? Could It be my Drivers or lack of? There may be nothing at all wrong with my hardware...but why do the Applications/OS seem oblivious to spin up time. They seem to expect Data immediately!

I don't believe it would be a driver issue, windows automatically loads cdrom drivers. Also, if you wait for the cdrom to spin up before you click OK, you wouldn't have to click OK 10 times, just wait for the CD to spin up and then click OK. As far as I know that is normal. I just put the CD in and let it spin up before starting the app/game.

Yes, Dumass is right. There is a lag time as the cd spins up. If you listen to the drive, you can hear the motor spin when you load the disc. This is completely normal, and all drives have this issue.

A lot of CD drives have a high spin-up time. You don't need to keep clicking ok though. I think the only thing you can do short of a new computer is wait the ten seconds. Even with a new computer, the best you'll get is around 4 seconds.

OK....gotcha!

Im not sure this happens...but if it does...Is the following a problem:

Pretend for a moment that I run HP "Direct CD" (a CD copy utility). It prompts me for a source CD...but its been in there the Whole Time! So I hit "OK"...but it asks me again..."insert a source CD"! So I eject the CD and reinsert it....wait for spin up.....and then hit OK. But not good enough. It asks for a source CD. So I repeat the insert, this time hitting the OK rapidly while it spins up!...Then It works!

PS. If an application was installed with the H: Drive (CDROM)....Can it be difficult to run on the I: Drive (other CDROM) drive?

It sounds like the CD-Roms them selves are the prob
All roms have that lag time it varies from Rom to Rom though
the older Rom drives have very slow start up times and the cheap quality new drives also have longer lags

Go for a high quality drive there are some good ones on teh market 50 speed and above that do not have that lag........ not that is noticable anyway...

Clean the lens on the Drive.

Six and a half years ago when that was an issue, cleaning the lens may have worked.

Now, I think cleaning filters is the cure and failing that buying a new unit works best.

But, it is always nice to hear from new people.

Nothing like a reply 6 years later. Well if they still were using the same drive I guess they're very happy for the info now after the long wait. Maybe I should pick up a hobby of replying to posts 5 or more years in stasis just in case someone is patiently awaiting support hehe.
