RAS error 633
A client is using a US Robotics Sportster 56K modem to collect email. They are getting RAS error 633 most of the time. I have made sure service pack 6a is installed.
Does anyone have any idea if this is a Windows problem or the modem or the ISP?
I have a feeling it is the ISP (BT) as they have just changed to them. They were connecting to Freeserve and got the error occasionally.
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Error 633 "Modem already in use or not configured for dialing out"
So...is it?
Could be a number of issues here, from the obvious to the not so. Often a 633 is caused because a connection hase been made and not released correctly. The Com port thinks it is still active. Or another application is calling the modem - fax, phone dialer, Outlook Express IE on auto-dial on launch. Try re-booting the box, and that will re-set the ports and modem. Then see what communications set up is configured. Or you could run diag on the modem if you know the Hayes commands and check them out.
