 looking for driver for Viewsonic VP930
I'm having a lot of trouble finding a Win98 driver for Viewsonic vp930b monitor. Any suggestion ?

No mention of manufacturer drivers here although it expressly says any mention of Windows includes Win98.
Some pretty thorough setup information is there.

There is a 'Standard_Monitor_Driver_Unsigned' there that covers Win98.

Well for one thing I have a "Default Monitor" installed in my list of monitors in Device Manager. I can't get rid of it no matter what I've tried, Windows detects an unknown device and creates a "Default Monitor". Perhaps this is caused by the fact that my video card (ATI Radeon 9200) has provision for attaching two monitors, although I configured the adapter for "single display". I've disabled it in Device Manager and perhaps I shouldn't blame ViewSonic for this.
The second problem that I do blame Viewsonic for, is when I try to update the monitor drivers, I can see drivers for ViewSonic VP930 Series (my monitor model is VP930b), but when I try to install it looks for a VP930.ICM on my CD-ROM. It's on my CD-ROM but it won't accept it, I've pointed to Windows/System/Color where it resides on my hard drive and won't accept it. It just fails to install. That bothers me.

I was just following the instructions that the Device Manager threw at me, after asking Device Manager to help me upgrade the drivers. I wasn't trying to install the .ICM myself, I don't even know what it is, but I know where they are. After I pointing to the correct .INF the Device Manager wanted the .ICM, but no matter where I told Device Manager it was residing, it wouldn't accept it.

No, I get a failed to install new driver message. It says the ICM does not match the hardware I have installed.
But the ICM on the CD-ROM came with the VP930b monitor and also it's the only ICM named VP930 on my hard drive that came from installing the Viewsonic Unsigned driver pack.
Another funny thing is that when I go to the Color Management settings on my video adapter configurator (Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced), the VP930.ICM is selected. So the VP930 appears to be driven properly in spite of Device Manager's ugly behaviour. I'm not sure what the Device Manager is trying to do with the ICM file, I assume copying over to the Windows/System/Color directory on the hard drive ? There must be a bug in the Viewsonic VP930 ICM file, that makes the Device Manager think it's incompatible.

If you boot to safe mode does the monitor work in basic VGA low res?
If so, I don't see why you can't uninstall the monitor(s) and drivers and reboot and use that downloaded basic unsigned driver.
The way it appears (and they say it clearly on their site), ALL OS's can use the generic driver BUT they provide tweeked drivers for ME, 2K, and XP.

The ViewSonic Standard Monitor Driver-Unsigned is the best choice for monitors with all operating systems. For a more specialized installation, it is recommended to install the driver for your operating system. A signed product is one that has been certified by Microsoft. Signed drivers are available only for Windows® Me, 2000 and XP."

I read the Viewsonic site but obviously didn't understand it. Now that you explained it a bit better it makes sense why the drivers don't work in all respects in Windows 98SE. I guess I should just be thankful that it works at all.

Don't despair completely - that other site I linked gave some settings on the monitor itself that apparently clear things up a lot.
Worth trying anyway.
