    thanks again!

    Hi, and thanks again -
I was feebing around the instructions for awhile, and didn't know which set to follow -
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction -
Followed the instructions, but I still get error messages when I try to update the drive routines -

    Have SP2
    Have downloaded the drivers,
Have tried update, but still no sound -

does anyone know of any other place where I could find drivers? -
I've run PCLinuxOS live and I get the sound to work, so I know the device is OK -
Still having a hard time getting it to work with windows
Many thanks so far for all of the help -
I'm kind of a noob, and can't afford to buy a new PC or the technical support form HP , so I really appreciate this -

When you open the C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder, do you see a number of files and one file with the extension .inf ? Or is there a Setup.exe file or just the downloaded sp26445.exe file ?

Did you try using the 'Install Now' button on that page ?

Decided to give the linux system a go but I miss my windows settings -
I see a bunch of drivers and I chose Spring 2005 Original Audio Driver Collection
    I downloaded sp26445.exe file -

I have tried several times now - I get here:
In the device manager, I get to Sound, Video, and game controllers
I right click next to Older sound driveroutines and I select "Update Driver"
I click automatically update, then next -
the update wizard cannot continue - the driver cannot be updated -

Even tried manually locating the downloads and leading the installation to the exact folders- still no dice (or sound from XP)

slgreib, SnowBlindGrafix, and CCT, thank you all very much - I'm still trying to get sound from this pavilion with XP -

What do you mean "give the linux system a go"

Have you loaded linux on your HP? Or is it just a live CD?

When you download the driver and double click the file it will extract to
    C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder
Have a look in there, there should be a setup.exe file. Double click that.
If there isn't, please list what files are in there.

    Step 3: Obtain software:

    Installation Instructions

    1. Download the driver package.
    2. Double-click on the icon for the driver package downloaded in step 1, and then click NEXT.
    3. Accept the terms in the HP license agreement, and then click NEXT.

If your PC uses a Realtek High Definition audio solution, use steps 4 and 5 to complete the update, otherwise skip to step 6 and continue with the remaining steps.

    4. Click NEXT at the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Setup window and wait for the update to complete. This may take a few minutes.
    5. Click FINISH at the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver Setup window to restart the PC.

    6. Click OK to continue. The original drivers are now stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\Audio folder.
    7. If Device Manager does not start automatically, use the following steps. Otherwise go to step 8:

    a. Click Start.

    b. Right-click My Computer, and then select Properties.

    c. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.

    8. Click the + (plus) sign next to "Sound, video and game controllers" or "Other devices".
    9. Right-click the device you want to update, and then select Update Driver.
    10. Click NEXT to install the software automatically
    11. Click FINISHED to complete the installation.

    * Download file(s) to install later:

    » sp26445.exe 1/1 (43.81M)

By downloading, you agree to the terms and conditions of the HP software licensing agreement
    » HP software licensing agreement.

These are HP's instructions for installing the original driver. Did the installation program fail to appear when you ran the package? If that's the case, you might have a damaged download. Trying a fresh copy might work.
