ok remove the pci ethernet controller with the ? next to it in device manager.

Then at the top, click on action and scan for hardware devices. When it asks for the 8029as tell windows to also look in a specific location. Make sure that location is the unzipped files location, not the zipped folder and this is the driver you have unzipped

You know, I seem to remember that the 8029as was built into windows...

Yup, make sure the cables are put in right! You might have to reboot after plugging in the cable.

    hi NooNoo.
I'm still having problems with connecting to the internet. I plugged in the Ethernet cable from my pc to the router i have, but a red light appeared on the router corresponding to the port i plugged it into. i Did update the drivers, i think it may be something else.

I do get the two computers in the right hand corner, but with a red cross through them.

Any help would be greatly taken
    cheers

Type 192.168.1.1 into your browser address bar and access your router.

Do you show entries for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS 1 and 2?

If the card is now installed according to device manager it could be a negotiation issue as well (card and router cannot decide how fast they can talk to each other) open Network Connections in control panel
Right Click the Local Area Connection and select properties. Then on the upper right of the screen select the Button marked Configure.
On the advanced Tab look in the properties screen for
Link Speed Duplex or Media Type or Connection Type then when it is highlighted look at the value. If it is set to auto Negotiate use the down arrow and change it to 10 Half Duplex (10 Base T) and select OK and OK or close. See if the local area connection then loses the Red cross for Network Cable unplugged. If it does then try the connection.
