Regular mode will not go to Desktop

I have used system restore (repair) from the dartition on a Compaq Presario s3300nx to fix the c:\partition. It is running xp sp1.
    Safe mode runs perfectly.
When I get to regular mode the message "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the licence for this computer. Error Code
0x080090006". It will not let me into windows desktop.
Is their a registry edit that will work ?
Can I do a repair install from a Microsoft xp sp1 disk, xp sp2 disk ?
I have run anti-virus..no problems, and chkdsk /f. Still the same thing.
    I know there's a workaround...just don't know it. Thanks

Were you asked to type in the authentication key numbers?

If so, you got them wrong.

It just simply stops there, no questions, no way to continue.
I looked in device mgr. and I was missing some drivers so I am re-installing from downloads and hope to know more tomorrow. That way it may be closer to the wpa files contents. Thanks

    That didn't answer my question.

Only thing that would work was a system restore including ntfs format. Lost all the old programs. Ran a disk checking program and the disk had read verify and linear seek errors. This caused a system32 error that indicated it had damaged portions of the registry. Thanks everyone for helping with this.

    New drive

Actually, dead right, but it's going to be a new computer.
