    When Ads Go Bad

This entry from The Security Fix is interesting from a couple of standpoints. First it's a great example of how not just inappropriate ads but links to malware can be placed on a site via banner ads, and second; Look!, it's Neopets again. Some of you may recall my recent experience with a game link on the site trying to slap me with malware. If you haven't read it, here it is.

I think Neopets genuinely want a good site for kids, but their execution lacks imaginative security lock downs.

I agree, and this isn't the only site I've seen with similar problem ads placed on it. As I said, I think it's a common vulnerability. But, I have asked my kids to please stay off Neopets for now.

Far too many sites don't make much effort to control their ad content, so you can find not just inappropriate ads but ads that are outright links to malware, and of course lots of these target kids sites and social sites.
