What I Did With My Summer Vacation

Events of the last two or three weeks just reaffirmed my belief that the best way to live a long and happy life is to avoid doctors. I hadn't had a complete physical in 3-4 years, so I let my wife (a healthcare professional) browbeat me into one. I went in and had blood tests done, got poked and prodded, had my prostate checked (that left me walking on tippie toes for a day or two) and finally, I went in for a colonoscopy. If you're not familiar with this, I'm not going to enlighten you. Try Wikipedia or the Mayo Clinic web site.

Anyway, I believe that I got an overdose of my sedative, and that caused some interesting behavior. I think the best moment was when I sat down with one of the dogs, put my arm around him, and explained that I loved him, but had to cut his throat because I didn't like the way he looked at me. My kids wouldn't bring me the big chef's knife, but I did get shipped off to the hospital for some treatment.

So, I'm left in an embarrassing position. I have had to apologize to posters on a few forums for some of my remarks. In particular, on this forum adamsappleone gets a well deserved apology.

Been there done that. Time to arse kick the person giving you the sedative for the colonoscopy.
I had one a month or so ago and had no distressing problems. Inn fact it was a win win situation.
All was clear and since I quit smoking 14 months ago. I found the manditory blood pressure test revealed my pressure was down significantly. In fact I asked if the machine was broken since this was a stressfull situation which I am sure slgrieb would agree with.
They re assured me it was not. Since this was before any type of sedative or anything I was most interested and had it retested at the doctor's office a few weeks later.
Seems what was usual at 140 ish is now normal at 125 ish.
Fantastic news i would say.

The adamsapple one passed me by for some reason, don't recall seeing that at all. He'll appreciate an explanation, no doubt.

Reaction to anaesthesia was one reason my Dad always hated any kind of surgery. He got all sorts of strange reactions, & some degree of continuing paranoia for months was a worry to Mum (he thought she was poisoning him).

Ferrett is probably right about the anaesthetist, if you have no history of being anaesthetised, they should be cautious with dose etc, but by the same token, if you have no previous history they don't know how you react to particular sedatives.

I've only had to have a colonoscopy once, it was no drama, but the people looking after it were good technicians, I was lucky that way.

I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. In a very small percentage of procedures involving cautery of polyps and the like gas pockets in the intestine may explode, sometimes resulting in death. By contrast, spending a few days as a raving psychotic really wasn't that bad.

Try to remember next time you can blame dam near anything on your condition.
