Post How do I open .max

I have been emailed some files with a .max extension. I cannot open them in Notepad, Wordpad or Works and PaintShop Pro does nor recognize them. What is .max and how do I open the files please?

Its a paperport file. If you don't have the viewer, you can find it

FINALLY Figured out how to open .max file extension!!

Ok, so I did a ton of searching and finally figured out how to open up those annoying .max file extensions on a PC (sorry, couldn't get it to work on my mac). Here's what I did on my PC with Windows XP:

    1. Go to this website: http://www.nuance.com/paperport/viewers/

    2. Click on the "Paperport viewer for Windows" link

    3. Now click the link that says "up to higher level directory"

    4. Click on (to download) the file link on the bottom called "viewersetupex.exe"

    5. After download completes, you may notice that this file no longer has the .exe file extension (if it does, then skip this step...). So if it doesn't have the .exe file extension, add it.

    6. Open the program and install.

The program itself stinks, and doesn't allow you to convert the .max files, but at least you can open them and print them (or take a screen capture).

    Hope this helps!

".max, what were you thinking? Why create a file extension, get people hooked and dependent, and then drop us like a bad habit"
