    RE: iexplore.exe won't exit

This is an interesting issue. Internet explorer 7, which came with my computer, doesn't close when you click the exit button. I can only close it by ending the process with the task manager. Anyone know why this is the case?

When you click the X, does the top bar change to "not responding"?

You likely have an incomplete or damaged installation of ie.

Uninstall IE 7 (which returns you to IE 6) by following these directions:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177
    ...and...
    http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

and then re-install IE 7 following the directions above. Download the IE
7 installer from Microsoft and install directly from your hard disk:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx

Also make a backup copy of your "Favourite's" just in case.

Here's what happens and the order in which I do things to get it closed:

    1. Click the X
    2. after 5 or 6 seconds, the content of the window goes white
    3. it does not close, and after clicking the thing several times (regardless of where in the window), it says not responding in the title bar.
    4. Because it wont close, keystrokes: ctrl + alt + del in order to run task manager
    5. End process tab - end process: iexplore.exe

OK, you need to run it without addons (Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, IE no addons) Does that version hang? If it doesn't, one of the addons is to blame....
Internet Explorer, Tools, manage addons and disable one at a time.

Okay, first thing I did was reinstall iexplore. That did not fix the problem.

NooNoo, I ran iexplore without addons, and I was able to exit the program.
I have Norton 360 on my computer, and it ties into iexplore to provide a phishing filter. Which addon (or addons) does Norton correspond with, so that I know which one(s) not to turn off?

It should be clearly labelled in the list of addons as supplied by Norton or possibly Symantec.
