Networking a My Book USB External Drive

I have a 1000 GB My Book external storage drive that was once connected to my network via USB cable to my desktop PC. I have since changed my network configuration and sold the desktop. I now have a wireless router/modem, a wireless print server, and two laptops that connect wirelessly{?} to the network.

My problem is that I would like to add the external drive to my network BUT the only output from the external drive is a USB port. Of course, my router/modem has only ethernet ports BUT my wireless print server DOES have 2 USB ports to accomodate 2 printers and i use only 1 or those ports. I have serious doubts that I could use the print server USB port but thought there might possibly be some way.

I also wondered if there were some type of converter similar to what is used to plug USB keyboards/mice to serial ports. I can, of course, simply connect to my laptop with a USB cable when needed as the external drive is primarily used to back up my laptop files using Acronis True Image BUT it would be great to be able to connect wirelessly. My whole house is now wireless with 4 Linksys wireless video cams that I can connect to via the Internet to keep track of the home when away.

Another option has been to simply buy the cheapest refurbed PC I can, plug the drive to it, and connect that PC to my router.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jeff Farrar

Don't you just hate people that can't do a simple Yahoo! search before posting a question? Pasted "USB to RJ45 Conveter" in a search blank and came up with about 1,000 options!

    Here's one:

    Thanks...sorry 'bout that.

Well....it appears that I still need help. The converters have the flat end of the USB cable to plug into your device whereas my external drive would have to have the USB end which is square/house-shaped.

Still needing some help and searching at www.cablestogo.com.

    Thanks......

But the best option would be this because even if you do convert the drive usb to ethernet, does the drive understand the network?

This also is regarding a Converter but a different species. A voice recorder that records in ACT and I want to convert it WAV. It has a USB connection and I tried the control panel >Device Manager >to Disk Drive>USB but it looked for drivers (and for the voice recorder) said it the drivers installed were ok. But how do I Convert over to WAV, because the ACT file is a lot of gibberish. Maybe there is another Forum where I can find my answer, unless someone here gives me a clue.
